Ms. O.D's Flying Quilt
This quilt is made from a combination of vintage linen, new linen, muslin and chambray cotton. It has a pure cotton batting for durability and warmth.
Entirely hand quilted using cotton Japanese sashiko thread.
The border is hand stitched using a double binding technique.
This quilt measures 60 inches x 60 inches.
The design is taken from a traditional flying geese quilt pattern. The name comes from the source of the pink fabric. A friend was generous enough to allow me to have an old dress I found crumbled up on her property. Something about the seashell pink caught my eye. The dress, beautifully hand sewn, must have graced the figure of a woman 70+ years ago and was likely Ms. O.D's dress. With as much heart ache as it was to cut into this hand sewn garment I gave it a new life by including it in this quilt. The tone and colors of this quilt are timeless.
This quilt is a perfect size to accent a full or queen sized bed, and a large enough lap quilt to keep anyone warm all winter. The back of the quilt is a solid muslin cream colored piece.
This quilt was selected for exhibition at QuiltCon 2015, presented by The Modern Quilt Guild. It also appeared in Issue 1 of Knit Wit Magazine, out Winter 2015.
Sewn in Texas. American Made.
