The Abiquiu Quilt
The Abiquiu Quilt
The quilt is named for the color and forms found in and around the small town of Abiquiu, New Mexico. Approaching Abiquiu Lake, the light and energy radiating from the water and surrounding mountains produces the most luminous pinks and blues.
This quilt has been in production for over two years and has taken more than 150 hours of handwork.
The quilt is built with 75% linen and 25% shot cottons and Kona cotton. The design is based on the timeless bricklayer quilt block. The back of the quilt is also pieced, it's forms reminding me of the adobe homes in Abiquiu.
It has a pure cotton batting for durability and warmth. It is entirely hand quilted using cotton Japanese sashiko thread that I hand dyed with indigo.
The border is hand stitched using a double binding technique, ensuring the edges of your quilt are well protected. The Abiquiu Quilt measures 92 inches x 77 inches. It lays nicely on a king sized mattress but fits a queen sized well.
The craftsmanship and fine quality materials used to make this quilt ensure that it is a classical modern heirloom, crafted beautifully to stand the test of time. Like anything made with linen, this will only get better the more it's loved, and used.
