Beginner Boro Workshop
Looking to fix your child’s beloved pants that have holes in the knees? Or that heirloom quilt you need to restore?
Boro stitching is a way of mending clothing and adding your own unique mark,
otherwise known as visible mending. Boro stitching hails from medieval Japan, and
uses a decorative cotton sashiko stitching to mend or strengthen textiles.
Bring an item of clothing that needs to be mended, or come just to explore this
meditative method of repairing fabrics. It’s preferable to work with natural fibers –
cotton, linen, hemp. Polyester and stretch fabrics are a challenge. If you don’t have
something to bring, I’ll have some scraps you can play with. There will be options to
make your own patch, or simply use cotton stitches to provide added layers of strength
and that visible mending.
